The National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, a charity with registered charity number 205846 (the 'National Trust') is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. The National Trust is the data controller for the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998.
This Privacy Policy sets out the basis on which The National Trust processes your personal data. Please read the following carefully to understand how we will treat your personal data.
This Privacy Policy only relates to personal data collected by The National Trust via The National Trust mobile application software (the 'App').

When we process your personal data, the National Trust will comply with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998.
We may collect and process the following data about you:
Information about the device and operating system you use such as the IP address of your device, such information is collected automatically when the App is used by you. We use this information to improve the service to our wide range of users. By using the App you agree to us collecting this information, and that we may place cookies on your device. For more information please see our Cookie policy.
Where you enable location sharing, we may also use the location finding technology of your mobile device (GPS and nearby WIFI networks) to display your current location on a map provided by either Google Maps or Microsoft Bing Maps. Some of the location-enabled services available on our App require your personal data for the feature to work. If you wish to use the particular feature, you will be asked to consent to your data being used for this purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time by turning off your location services in the settings on your mobile device.
We will collect your name and email address when you send us comments, complaints and queries by email.
We will collect your name and any other personal data you may share on the App’s social media functions.
We will collect your name, email address and address when you enter competitions, promotions or surveys
We will collect your name, address and email address when you report a problem with the App.
We gather the following anonymous information in aggregate form: Mobile device type (e.g., iPhone), operating system (e.g., iOS, Android, Windows).
We use information held about you in the following ways:
a. to provide our services, activities or online content to you and to deal with your requests and enquiries;
b. to personalise the way National Trust content is presented to you (e.g. showing your favourite National Trust places);
c. to identify your location to enable us to identify properties and events that are near your current location;
d. to analyse and improve our services in the App;
e. to provide you with the most user-friendly navigation experience. For your information, the National Trust may also use and disclose general information in aggregate (so that no individuals are identified or personal data is disclosed) for marketing and strategic development purposes;
f. We also use the information from your device to detect if the App crashes so we can resolve issues with the App. We track usage of the App so we can report on active number of users of the App.
g. Market research and statistical analysis.
h. To respond to, and, where relevant, attempt to resolve, any comments, queries or complaints you may have.
The App uses several third party tools to run services within the App, and also to track issues and usage of the App. We may disclose some or all of the data we collect from you when you download or use the App to the following third parties:
a. Analytics and search engine providers that assist us in the improvement and optimisation of our App including
i. Crashlytics;
ii. Flurry;
iii. Adobe Analytics.
b. The following third party service providers will have access to your IP address for the purpose of providing the information contained in the App to you:
i. Cloudinary – Image hosting
ii. National Trust images and places APIs – Places and locations
c. In order to display your location data as set out in section 3 above, we share your location data with location and mapping service providers, including:
i. Google Maps;
ii. Microsoft Bing Maps.
By using the location tracking feature of the App, and providing us with consent to access your personal location data for that purpose, you also consent to us sharing your data with third party location and mapping service providers for that purpose.
We may disclose your personal information to any member of our group (including our subsidiaries, parent company or any subsidiaries of our parent company from time to time).
We may disclose your personal information to third parties:
a. In the event that we sell or buy any business or assets, in which case we may disclose your personal data to the prospective seller or buyer of such business or assets.
b. If we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal or regulatory obligation or request.
c. In order to enforce or apply our Terms of Use and other agreements or to investigate potential breaches.
d. Protect the rights, property or safety of The National Trust, our customers, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction.
You have the right under the Data Protection Act 1998 to ask The National Trust, in writing, for a copy of all the personal data held about you (this is known as a 'subject access request'). A subject access request may be subject to a fee of £10 to meet our costs in providing you with the details of the information we hold about you. Our App may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of our partner networks, advertisers and affiliates (including, but not limited to, websites on which the App is advertised). If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites and any services that may be accessible through them have their own privacy policies and we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies or for any personal data that may be collected through these websites or services, such as contact and location data. Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites or use these services.
This Privacy Policy applies solely to the personal data collected by The National Trust and does not apply to third party websites.
The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (EEA). It may also be processed by staffs operating outside the EEA who work for one of our suppliers or contractors. These staff may be engaged in the fulfilment of your request, order or reservation, the processing of your payment details and the provision of support services. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. The National Trust will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our App; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access. The National Trust holds your personal data in accordance with the security provisions of the UK Data Protection legislation.

Ensure when using these features that you do not submit any personal data that you do not want to be seen, collected or used by other users.
If The National Trust changes its Privacy Policy, it will post such changes in the App under the section entitled 'Privacy Policy'. It will be your responsibility to read the latest privacy policy.
