Home Farm restaurant is open every day, serving hot food, sandwiches, cakes and bakes, ice cream, and hot and cold drinks. Why not pick up a second-hand book to enjoy with your coffee in the courtyard? The volunteer-run bookshop is usually open every day, but please check with us beforehand if you’re visiting specially.
Visiting in the morning? For a light bight, why not tuck into a breakfast brioche barm filled with egg, sausage or bacon, washed with a nice hot brew? Or, for something more substantial, we are now serving full cooked breakfasts at weekends, with standard, veggie, and children's varieties, as well as regular and large options available... hearty food to serve every appetite.
Between noon and 2.30pm, take your pick from a range of delicious paninis, sandwiches, salads, seasonal soups and jacket potatoes filled with your favourite toppings.
Families can pick up a special kids’ lunchbox that will please even the pickiest of eaters, while a bowl of traditional Scouse is a welcome option any time of year.
If you have a sweet tooth, indulge in some classic favourites such as a traditional fruit scone, a slice of handmade Victoria sponge, a piece of flapjack or a chocolate brownie. For a real taste of Speke, try a slice of local favourite Wet Nelly.
Located in the corner of the orchard, close to the house, the Stable Tea-Room is usually open at weekends and during school holidays. It's a handy place to stop for a drink or a light bite, such as a sandwich, a cake or an ice cream. Take a seat inside what were once stables built for the Leyland family's many guests, or sit outside in the yard or orchard.
Alongside the Stable Tea-Room, you'll find kiosks serving award-winning Cheshire Farm ice cream in a range of delicious flavours. The Home Farm kiosk is just a few metres from the play area, making it the perfect place to stop for a pre- or post-playtime treat.
As part of our commitment to becoming more sustainable at Speke Hall, we’re moving towards replacing plastic bottles with recyclable aluminium cans and bottle alternatives. We also provide paper straws on request, while all of our disposable packaging is plant based (though we prefer our customers to use reusable crockery and cutlery where possible).
Don't forget to bring your own reusable cup to receive a 25p discount on hot drinks.
Out in the gardens and grounds, we use peat-free compost and produce lots of our own fruit and vegetables in the Kitchen Garden, which are then used in dishes in the restaurant. That's about 100 yards from plot to plate.
We're also committed to serving local, fresh and honest food made using ethical and sustainable ingredients. We've been recognised with several awards, including being one of only seven restaurants in Merseyside to be given a Good Food Award in 2020.
Most of the food and drink served is prepared on site in our kitchen, using a wide range of ingredients. As a result, we can’t guarantee that any of our food and drink products are completely allergen free.
If you have an allergy or intolerance and would like ingredient information about the food and drink served, please ask the staff, who will be happy to help.
Visited before? We sometimes change our recipes to improve quality and flavour, including the ingredients. When you visit, please speak to one of our team to check the current allergen information for your favourite dish.
Every cuppa or tasty treat you buy helps us to continue looking after places for everyone to enjoy.

Tucked away in the historic buildings at Home Farm is Speke Hall's second-hand bookshop, Speke’s Volumes. Pop in and discover a treasure trove of fiction and non-fiction, and support the important conservation of Speke at the same time.
As the second-hand bookshop is run by volunteers, opening times can vary, but it's usually open every day in the early afternoon. If you'd like to pop in specially to find your next page-turner, please call the shop the day before or in the morning of your visit to check that it's open.
Speke's Volumes has a section dedicated to rare and collectible books, which contains some real treasures that have been donated to us. We research and price each book individually, with every penny directly supporting our conservation work. If you have a question or would like to reserve a book, please email us.
Your second-hand book donations are always welcome; please donate your books by dropping them off at reception. You can pop in any day of the week during opening hours.
All genres and age ranges are welcome. From classic romances to the latest thrillers, your stories could help us share Speke's stories for generations to come.
It is through your purchases and support that we are able to continue to care for nature, beauty and history for everyone, for ever.
