Rock climbing and scrambling are great ways to develop new skills and confidence as you explore the outdoors. There are lots of places for beginners to have a go, and children can tick off a ‘50 things’ activity – No. 46 Clamber over rocks. Please remember that you should only climb in a supervised environment, wearing a helmet.
All indoor climbing walls will offer training, but if you’re climbing outdoors you need to hire a qualified instructor. Instructors must have an SPA qualification as a minimum, and preferably an MIA or MIC qualification too.
Joining a training course or event will take you to some of the best places for climbing in our care – all with qualified instructors at your side.
If you don’t quite feel ready for rock climbing, you could start with clambering and scrambling over rocks. It’s an excellent way to find out if you might enjoy rock climbing.
Many of the skills and techniques will help you to learn how to climb. You’ll discover how to balance accurately, and where to position your feet to move to the next rock.
