open daily. Located in the Old Stables with indoor and outdoor seating available. Secondary outlet available on peak days.

Free car parking for Hinton Ampner visitors. Please park respectfully of others.

Space for 8 cycles to be parked within the visitor car park.
- Dogs allowed
Dogs allowed on short leads through the garden, estate, shop and second-hand bookshop. Water bowls are provided around the site. Assistance dogs only in the house and café.
- Picnic area
Several picnic benches available on the Parkland overlooking beautiful countryside.
- Shop
Open daily from 11am.
- Toilet
Facilities available to the side of the house and opposite the Second-Hand bookshop.
There are accessible toilets/baby-changing facilities by mansion in courtyard. Accessible Parking is available in main car park, further parking is available closer to the Mansion. - on A272, 1 mile west of Bramdean village, 8 miles east of Winchester. Leave M3 at exit 9 and follow signs to Petersfield.Parking: Free to visitors to Hinton Ampner. - Cycling
- Cycle parking is located 50m from the visitor welcome building. Alternatively, you are welcome to walk your cycle in with you but it cannot be taken in the house with you. Hinton Ampner is close to both National Cycle Network Route 23 and the South Downs Way giving both on-road or off-road options for cycling to visit. Plan your route to Hinton Ampner using the CycleStreets journey planner via the by bicycle link below. (This journey planner uses OpenStreetMap data which is generally excellent but accuracy cannot be guaranteed. If you come to a footpath or other cycle-prohibited track, please don't ride on it).
- On foot
- Arrival on foot to main gates off the A272. Make your way up the main drive way to visitor reception using the gates next to both cattle grids. Arrival from direct access from Wayfarers Way, linked to South Downs way, please report to reception at far end of the main drive on arrival.
- By train
- Winchester 9 miles; Petersfield 10 miles; Alresford (Mid-Hants Railway steam railway, linked via mainline services at Alton) 4 miles. See bus details for transfers to Hinton Ampner.
- By bus
- Winchester to Petersfield, via Alresford (passing close to Winchester and Alresford train stations and passing Petersfield train station). Number 67 Stagecoach bus (No Sunday service). Both east and westbound bus stops located within 5 minute walk of the main entrance.

- To avoid obstructing traffic please do not arrive before 9:40 am.

Pumpkin Displays
11 October - 2 November 2025, spot the archway of gourds, wonder at the pumpkins growing plump in the Walled Garden and take advantage of seasonal photo opportunities with pumpkin displays being created from over 500 fresh pumpkins all around the grounds. Little ones might enjoy spotting the pumpkin cut outs hidden around the Walled Garden, or smelling herbs in the Potting Shed and identifying beautiful Autumn colours with our interactive colour wheel. Walled Garden Appeal
The one-and-a-half acre walled garden dates back to Tudor times and greets visitors as they arrive at the entrance to the property. It’s home to a rich variety of fruits and vegetables and beautiful flower-cutting borders which are all accessed via a crucial network of paths. Damage from weather and thousands of footsteps have left the path in need of replacement.

House
After a fire in 1960, the House was rebuilt by its last owner, Ralph Dutton. Beautifully proportioned rooms which house a collection of ceramics and art. The ground floor is open every day.
Garden
Manicured lawns lead the eye down avenues of sculptured topiary, mature tree lined landscapes and views across the South Downs.
Estate
Enjoy acres of countryside walking with glorious views over the South Downs countryside.
Eating
The café is the perfect place to relax and satisfy your taste buds during your visit. Housed in one of the oldest buildings on the Hinton estate, the café was formerly the stable block, as well as the village Social Club, making it a historic hub of activity.

Harvest Celebration
Until 2 November, visit us for an abundance of garden produce, learn about growing vegetables and have some fun with our Autumn family challenges; take a whirl on the Autumn colour wheel, discover the scents of a productive, Autumn garden and spot the pumpkin cut-outs hidden in the Walled Garden.
Pumpkin Displays
Jump into autumn with a splash of colour and marvel at our beautiful pumpkin displays around the grounds. From October 11 we will have over 500 perfect pumpkins to discover, with photo opportunities across the property.

The house was lovingly rebuilt by its last owner, Ralph Dutton, after a catastrophic fire in 1960. Enjoy the beautifully proportioned rooms which house his exquisite collection of ceramics and art, each window offering undisturbed views to the tranquil countryside beyond.
