An 18th-century apartment in the laundry yard of Florence Court, with out-of-hours access to historic gardens, orchards and woodland.
Butler’s Apartment served as living quarters for the male servants at Florence Court, the 18th-century mansion next door to the holiday home. This atmospheric first floor apartment overlooks the laundry courtyard and adjoining woodland garden. Inside, you’ll find many historical quirks such as the period fireplaces, large sash windows and wooden floorboards.
Wake up early and explore Florence Court before visitors arrive. With gardens, orchards and miles of footpaths and trails, there’s plenty to discover. Spot the original Irish Yew tree in the native woodland and explore the buildings of the historic working demesne including a blacksmith’s forge, carpenter’s workshop, and sawmill. The project to restore the Kitchen Garden to its 1930s glory is well under way, with two new glasshouses on the original footprint. Florence Court is a thriving estate, and you’ll see groups of volunteers working in the garden, happy to chat and answer questions. Find a peaceful, pretty spot in the gardens to sit and soak up the surroundings after visitors have gone home for the day.
The forests and hills at the foot of Benaughlin are right on your doorstep. Head 5 miles from the apartment and you’ll reach the Culicagh Mountains. Follow one of the many walking routes before following the newly installed boardwalk to the 666 metre high summit.
