Accessibility at The Weir Garden
The Weir Garden is situated on a steep bank which drops down to the River Wye. It is a ten acre informal riverside garden with a short walk to a walled garden. It has limited access although we will do our utmost to accommodate all visitors.

Riverside garden
Beautiful ten acre riverside garden created in the late 18th century. Includes ancient trees, a rockery, Roman ruins and a picturesque picnic area next to the river.
Walled garden
Discover the historic walled garden, with colourful flower borders, seasonal produce and a 1920s Foster & Pearson glasshouse, where we're undertaking vital conservation work during summer 2022.
Parkland
Explore the rich history of the parkland as you stroll through it, encountering Roman remains such as a bathhouse and stone buildings. Discover a terraced earth from the Iron Age, traces of a Roman road, and the remnants of an engineered mill pond.

Get the whole family outdoors and discover winter at The Weir Garden, with frosty parkland walks, a children’s winter trail, and sweeping views over the Wye Valley.
February half term fun
Learn how archaeologist's use clues from the past to piece together stories about ancient cultures. Along the trail, there are stations encouraging young explorers to get creative and pick up their colouring tools. From mosaic puzzles, archaeological digs to helping decorate a large cut out Roman-pot, come and be a part of our journey into history. Plus find new adventures in the natural play area.

Bordered by the River Wye, The Weir sits within unspoilt Herefordshire countryside and has many historical secrets to uncover. For centuries this site has been used as a pleasure ground for fishing, boating and swimming. It is managed in a natural way to create a varied habitat for wildlife.
In spring, see carpets of bulbs littered between ancient trees, in summer enjoy a picnic by the river to watch the wildlife and in autumn visit the walled garden bursting with seasonal produce.

Restoring priority habitats at The Weir Garden
Thanks to the support of National Highways, we are embarking on a new project to restore over 65 hectares of priority habitat at The Weir Garden. By restoring meadowland, wood pasture, broadleaf woodland, and traditional orchards, we'll create a mosaic of diverse habitats for wildlife.
