Start point
Car park / cycle skills area, Osterley Park, TW7 4RD
Step 1
Starting from the far right-hand corner of the main car park, follow this path as it winds round a huge old oak tree and down towards the area known as Nine Acre. Keep your eye out for cyclists and pedestrians exiting from the skills area on your left.
Step 2
The trail will then bear right and bring you to a fork. To stay on the trail, keep to the right at the fork and keep going straight across Nine Acre.
Step 3
At the end of Nine Acre you will come to a chicane, so be sure to slow down here. Once you're through the chicane, turn left to continue on the trail along Osterley Lane. This is a bridleway so watch out for horses riding on the same trail.
Step 4
As the trail continues along Osterley Lane it passes Middle Lake and there's another great view back towards the house on your left-hand side. A bit further along the trail you will come to a fork, at which point you should keep right to stay on Osterley Lane.
Step 5
At this point the trail changes surface from gravel to concrete. Take the dropped curb on the right-hand side here and then go left towards the pedestrian gate. Once you're through this gate continue straight down the hill past the farmland, keeping an eye out for the Charolais cattle on your left.
Step 6
At the end of the hill you will come to a fork at the Gardener's Cottage. Take the right-hand path and continue towards the house and stables courtyard. There will be more pedestrians on the trail from this point onwards, so be considerate of other people using the path.
Step 7
You will now approach the house and the stables courtyard. t's the perfect place to stop for a drink or a snack in the café if you need a break. You can enter the house via the garden kiosk here too. To continue on the trail, follow the causeway around to the left-hand side.
Step 8
The causeway continues around the side of Garden Lake, home to a huge array of birds and some huge carp. This then takes you back up to the car park where the trail started and the entrance to the cycle skills area.
