Music by the Leeds Waits
Join us on the final Sunday of the season to enjoy some seventeenth century period music with the Leeds Waits.

Musicians from the Leeds Waits will perform music that would have been heard at Gawthorpe Hall in the early seventeenth century, linked with the 'Account of Life: Gawthorpe Hall in the 1600s' exhibition. They will play at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm and talk about their historic musical instruments in between. Instruments include the recorder, crumhorn, shawm, rauschpfeiffe, rackett, curtal, Cornish and Flemish bagpipes, harp, cittern and hurdy-gurdy. 'Waits' were groups of town or civic musicians, the Leeds Waits existed from 1530 to 1835, and then revived in 1983. According to the Shuttleworth Accounts books the original Leeds Waits performed at Gawthorpe Hall in 1618.

Please note: This event is held in the Long Gallery on second floor of Gawthorpe Hall accessed by the main staircase. Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the building, there is no lift.
