This charming dog-friendly cottage is just metres from a winding Cornish tidal creek and surrounded by woods.
Nestled by a densely-wooded bank, metres from the water’s edge, Pont Creek is an enchanting place to stay, perfect for walkers or water lovers. A former stable with a loft above, now converted to a two-bedroom cottage, if you look up you can still see the row of pigeon holes below the slate roof.
Sitting in a tiny hamlet with two other cottages, the Farm House and Mohun, Pont Creek lets you take life at a slower pace. Wake up to the sound of the stream, enjoy the sights, sounds and wildlife of the creek, and then curl up in front of the wood burning stove at the end of the day. Sleeping three, the cottage is ideal for small families or a small group of friends (and a dog). There’s a garden at the back of the cottage, but with the creek so close, we’re betting you’ll spend more time by the water.
As you relax by the quay, imagine Pont in its heyday as an important river quay with barges sailing up from Fowey to unload their cargo and to take on board produce from the farms. Nowadays it’s a popular stop on Hall Walk, enjoyed by ramblers taking in two ferry rides across the estuary. The creek is also used by kayakers, paddle boarders and other small craft. You’re also welcome to launch from this private quay if you have your own boat (max. 11 foot boat length).
After the calm of the creek has worked its magic, then the bustling town of Fowey is close, and can either be reached from Polruan by passenger ferry, or by car crossing at Bodinnick. Stop off for a bite to eat at the fantastic places that are found on both sides of the river, along the coast and inland. If you’re craving beach life, then the glorious beaches around Lantic Bay are also nearby. Further afield enjoy the historic National Trust properties of Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Antony and discover the old fishing towns of Looe and Polperro.
