Enjoy a performance of music in the drawing room at Ightham Mote as part of the Music@Malling programme of events.
World renowned period instrument specialist Melvyn Tan joins forces with cellist Guy Johnston, who was a winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year.
Come and experience how music of the early 19th century was first heard in a delightful programme of Beethoven, Schubert, and Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, showcasing Ightham Mote’s newly restored 1830s Stodart piano, which has a direct link to Felix Mendelssohn.
Ightham Mote is home to the collection of the celebrated contralto, Mary Postans who sang at Queen Victoria’s coronation in 1838 and worked closely with Felix Mendelssohn notably premiering the oratorio St. Paul in 1836. Mary’s recently restored scrap book will be on display. It contains fascinating insights into performing life in the early 19th century, including letters from Mendelssohn and concert handbills.

Designated parking spaces for Blue Badge holders in the main car park. Gardens have a mixture of gravel and grass paths, some steep slopes, undulating terrain and steps. Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of the site. Please note, the Drawing Room is accessed by a staircase of approximately 12 stairs, with handrails. There is no step-free access.
