What is a bothy?

What is a bothy?

Bothies offer stripped back accommodation in remote locations. Close to walking trails and national parks, they’re a great option for walkers and people who want to get away from it all. Simple brick or stone structures, bothies offer a 'camping with walls' experience. There's usually no electricity and water often comes from handpumps. All of our bothies are self-clean and do not include caretaking

What is a bunkhouse?

For those that want to enjoy the great outdoors without having to give up all the comforts of home, our bunkhouses provide simple, self-catering accommodation for large groups. Set in beautiful locations, they sleep between 6 and 48 people. Most bunkhouses have kitchens, spacious living and dining areas, dormitories with bunk-beds, showers, electricity and heating.

St Mark's Bothy, Brownsea Island, Dorset

This small building probably began life as a dovecot in the late 1800s before becoming a gardener's cottage and then falling into disrepair. It's been given new life as a beachside bothy, sleeping five people, with simple rooms and basic facilities for resting at the end of a day exploring the island and enjoying the beach. It's next to larger South Shore Lodge, a bunkhouse sleeping 12 people.

This spacious bunkhouse is right on the Watkin Path, leading to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) for a challenging 8 mile walk there and back. It has all the facilities you need for a walking weekend or holiday, including a woodburner in the shared sitting room, a kitchen and dining room, and a drying room with storage lockers.
