About Brownsham Bothy
Brownsham Bothy is a stone building offering a basic, open-plan space for relaxing and sleeping. There are sleeping platforms and some storage space and hooks; you should bring all the things you need to camp, including sleeping mats. In the enclosed courtyard there’s a picnic bench, composting toilet and separate sink with cold water. There’s no electricity, lighting or heating.
The bothy is surrounded by peaceful orchard, woodland and grassland, with just a handful of neighbours, with the relaxing sounds of nature and wildlife all around. It is close to the famous South West Coast Path. You can walk just over a mile to the small, pebbly beach at Mouthmill, and find Hartland Quay (7 miles) and Westward Ho! (12 miles) close by. Perfect for a group of friends looking for somewhere to get away from it all, the bothy is ideally placed for a walking holiday. Follow a path through nearby Beckland Woods, meandering up to Windbury Head for great views over Bideford Bay and out to Lundy. Known in spring for its carpet of bluebells, you’ll love exploring this beautiful stretch of North Devon.
Just a short drive along coast and you’ll arrive at Clovelly, a fishing village with a steep, cobbled high street leading down to the harbour, and home to local shops, cafés and traditional pubs.

Layout
Ground floor layout
Enter into the open-plan living/sleeping area. There are two double (4’6”) raised platforms that guests can put their own mats or air beds on. There is storage space under the platforms and to the end of the bothy. There are hanging hooks on the walls and a shelf. In the courtyard area there is a stand alone composting toilet (up 3 steps) and a separate sink with a cold water tap.

Parking: There is 1 car parking space within the nearby National Trust car park, 150m from the bothy. There is no offloading or parking possible at the bothy.
Garden: There is an enclosed courtyard in front of the bothy with a picnic bench seating 4.
Please note: This is an area with minimal light pollution so the nights will be very dark. We recommend bringing along a torch particularly to access the outside compost toilet.
There is no electricity or lighting in the bothy.
