A handsome, detached farmhouse near the Somerset coast, surrounded by the rolling green hills of Exmoor where sheep and cattle roam.
Nestled in a valley of the Exmoor hills on the Holnicote estate, this tranquil, beautifully-renovated cottage has unrivalled views towards Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor’s highest spot. It’s also handily close to the South West Coast Path, making it an ideal base for both walkers and seaside-lovers to get out among the sweeping coastal landscapes and abundant local wildlife.
Open the front door of this 19th-century farmhouse and you’ll be in the welcoming hallway. Just off the hallway you’ll find a sitting room with big comfy sofas and a cosy woodburner. The beautiful dining room leads on to the large modern kitchen with its traditional flagstone floors and a handy boot and utility room off to the side. It’s a great sociable space for getting everyone together. Upstairs are the 5 bedrooms, several with en-suites. Outside, you're spoilt with plenty of space and a cottage style, lawned garden and outdoor seating area.
Deep in gorgeous West Somerset, you’ll find quaint Selworthy with its village green a short walk from the cottage where you can stock up at the tea room and gift shop in an idyllic setting. The coastal village of Porlock, around 3 miles away, is where you’ll find the nearest pubs and also a bustling high street with wonderful independent shops and cafes. If you’re keen to get walking, then simply head out on the South West Coast Path where you can wander gorgeous villages and take clifftop strolls to your heart’s content. Beach lovers can chill out on pebbly Bossington, or nip to sandy Minehead, which is popular with families in the summer.
When you stay, there’s so much to explore nearby - take the Somerset Railway from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard or the cliff railway at Lynton. The vast Holnicote estate covers 12,500 acres of the Exmoor National Park and in it you’ll find wild ponies, deer, and beavers among a network of peaceful footpaths and bridleways. Once you’ve had your fill of beaches, rugged moors, craggy cliffs and wooded copses, then Taunton is around an hour away by car, or the cathedral city of Exeter an hour and a half.
