The Wall Garden at Nymans is brim-full of spring bulbs and blossom, around the centrepiece of the Italianate marble fountain. It’s a touch of heaven after the long winter, to take in the spring blossom and catch magnolias in flower. Later on in May, it’s the turn of the tall purple alliums in the borders to take centre stage, matched only by dusky mauve wisteria, tumbling on the pergolas and rare rhododendrons and azaleas
From new blooms to soft birdsong, Standen comes to life in springtime. Enjoy the clouds of pear and apple blossom. Followed by wisteria, clothing the wall by the lavender lawn with fragrant purple blooms. Rhododendrons from Mrs Beale’s original collection can be seen around the garden from mid May. While bluebells fill the woodlands.
From mid-April, Bateman’s orchard bursts into life with Edwardian apple, pear, and plum trees covered in delicate blossom, while newly planted pear trees promise future displays in Pear Alley. The Mulberry Garden dazzles with tulips, fritillaria, and sweet rocket, while the Formal Garden blooms vibrantly with primroses, hellebores, and Scilla siberica. Historic daffodil varieties, flowering quince, and the majestic Magnolia add further spring charm near the house.
In spring, the gardens at Lamb House come alive with vibrant seasonal blooms and lush greenery, offering a tranquil retreat for visitors. The historic garden features neatly tended borders and charming pathways, complemented by fragrant flowers bursting into colour. As the season progresses, the garden room wall becomes adorned with a breathtaking cascade of purple wisteria in full bloom.
