Renewal Gospel Choir is a Bristol-based community of passionate gospel music enthusiasts founded in 2005 by Vernon and Kim Samuels. It has grown from a small group of devoted singers and musicians into a dynamic 60-member gospel choir with a band. The choir embodies a commitment to excellence while remaining deeply rooted as a grass-roots organisation dedicated to presenting its audiences and members with dynamic gospel music experiences.
Under the leadership of Choir Director Kim Samuels and Musical Director Phil Barclay, the choir continues to grow in its strong delivery and performances. Samuels' and Barclay's combined 70 years of experience have effectively drawn out the best in the choir, propelling its growth and enhancing its musical prowess.
The choir has had the privilege of sharing the stage with esteemed artists such as Leona Lewis, winner of X Factor, and Beverley Trotman, an X Factor finalist. Additionally, Renewal Choir has worked on collaborations with the Welsh National Opera, touring with the WNO in 2022 performing a newly commissioned work, Migrations. Renewal Choir has also created and released its own original songs on popular streaming platforms.
Renewal Choir's performances, imbued with the uplifting gospel message, are always in high demand and have been warmly received at diverse functions and venues: from weddings and festivals to prisons and workshops, the choir takes pride in spreading the good news through their passionate gospel performances.
