Come and join us at Tintagel Old Post Office this summer for family fun and activities! You’ll find lots to see and do both inside the house and in the beautiful cottage garden.

Indoors we have a free family-friendly trail for you to discover the story of the building over its eight centuries. New this year is a short animation that shows you how it has changed over its history, from a thatched hall-house to the famous wavey-roofed building it is today.

Over the summer you’ll also find hidden around the room some special surprises if you look closely! From pretending the floor is lava, looking closely at collections pieces, learning a Cornish word or peeping down the deep garden well.

Or why not send a postcard from our Victorian post-box, stamped with our special ‘Old Post Office’ ink stamp? You can also take a ticket as a unique souvenir from our traditional wooden till.

And there’s plenty to do in the garden:

  • Garden games. (Free with admission, weather permitting). Challenge your friends and family to a game of noughts-and-crosses, dominoes or giant cards.
  • Garden explorer box. (Free with admission, weather permitting). Use the kit in the explorer box to take a closer look at the flowers and animals in the garden and see what you can identify. With our activity sheets you can also give a snail a shell glow-up and try a tricky wordsearch.
  • Second-hand book stall (weather permitting). Grab a bargain from the book stall in the garden. Books are labelled with prices on the back and all proceeds help to look after this special place. We have books for all ages. Or, take a chance on a ‘blind date’ book for children and adults.

  • Got a picnic? The garden is the perfect place for it! Find a shady or sunny spot and enjoy a pasty, ice-cream or even a cream tea in a relaxed and peaceful setting. The lawn is a real sun trap with one of Cornwall's oldest houses as the backdrop to your lunch!

Unfortunately we cannot allow any animals other than assistance dogs into the house or garden, but you are welcome to sit in the front garden, either in the sun on the bench, or in the shady front porch.
