Pym Mural Exhibition: Drawing Inspiration

Last year the Pym murals were uncovered for the first time in 10 years. Visitors are now invited to learn about the sources that inspired parts of the murals.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Commissioned in the 1950s by Plymouth Museum and Art Gallery with the support of the Astor family, these murals illustrate events from Sir Francis Drake's life. These colourful and accessibly pieces of art show the how the life of Sir Francis Drake was seen at the time they were painted.

When Roland Pym painted the murals he turned to historical sources for inspiration. Visitors can now learn about these sources and their implications.

Admission is free for National Trust members; normal admission applies for non-members.
