Join our Gibside rangers for a 2 mile walk through the grounds and help to complete a butterfly survey. Record butterfly species you see along the way and learn about the habitats they live in. This walk will take you to lesser-seen parts of Gibside, including hidden ponds where you may spot other wildlife, including dragonflies and birds.
This event is aimed at adults, although interested older children are welcome. Free, booking required.
Please note, the event may need be cancelled for bad weather. Please check your emails on the day before heading to Gibside.

Meet in the Walled Garden for the start of the walk.
- What to bring and wear
Please wear waterproof footwear and dress for the weather. Ensure that your arms and legs are covered.
- Accessibility
The walk will take approximately 2 hours, but participants are free to leave early. The walk will feature uneven, mixed terrain so is not suitable for wheelchair users. Wheelchair users may wish to join for the first 15 minutes, where the route covers more even terrain.
