Discover the Dig
We've discovered some fascination archaeology during some winter maintenance work at Castle Ward. Come and learn about what's being uncovered.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
As part of our essential maintenance works on Laurel walk, stone walls were discovered during a planned dig. We're uncovering what looks to be a large structure which pre-dates the current mansion house.
Visit to talk to the Archaeologists from Northern Archaeology Consultancy and see the Ulster Archaeology Society hard at work continuing the discoveries.
You'll get to hear an overview of the site so far and have a look at some of the finds close up.
Please note the route is uneven and can be muddy - please wear appropriate footwear. We do not recommend this for anyone who struggles to stand or walk on uneven surfaces. Due to the small numbers we don't recommend bringing your dog on this occasion.
