Heritage Open Day at the Heritage and Rural Skills Centre
8 September: visit the Heritage and Rural Skills Centre for free as part of Heritage Open Days.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
The Heritage and Rural Skills centre has been set up to preserve and teach traditional skills and crafts that are at risk of becoming extinct.
During the day craftspeople associated with the Skills Centre will be demonstrating their talents.
There will also be tours of the historic Coleshill Model Farm buildings where the Skills Centre is now housed. You'll learn about their original use and why the 19th-century farm was so innovative.
Also open will be Coleshill Mill, an 18th century watermill, once home to renowned potter Katherine Pleydell-Bouverie. See the original machinery and find out how the mill would have operated.
You'll be able to visit Coleshill's 'secret bunker' to discover the history of the Auxiliary Units who trained at Coleshill in the 1940s.
Heritage Open Day takes place on Sunday 8 September, 11am-5pm. Free entry.
