Festival of Archaeology

Visit Hardwick for a fun-filled family day celebrating archaeology through hands-on activities.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event

In collaboration with the Council for British Archaeology, join the family fun-filled finale to this year's amazing Festival of Archaeology at Hardwick Hall, celebrating archaeology & community through hands-on and awe-inspiring activities for all!

In addition to having ago at being an archaeologist in our test pits, you can discover the life and times of Bess of Hardwick through our re-enactors' stories of her maid and personal secretary, try your hand at weaving on a loom or writing with a quill and, for the adventurous, mount your hobby-horse and practice your Tudor jousting technique on our quintains! Inside the festival marquee you can explore the work of the many local archaeology and heritage community organisations.

The event will be free (standard admission charges will apply to go into Hardwick Hall and the formal gardens).
