  • Booking essential
  • Free event

Discover the fascinating history of this special corner of the Peak District.

Learn about the age of the rocks and how the landscape was formed millions of years ago when the area was underwater. Find out what events shaped the site and learn who the people were who made Ilam what it is today.

Our experienced guide will show you how to look for fossils in the spectacular landscape and even show you how to conduct your own geological survey.

From the landscape forming in the Ice age, to the first inhabitants and then the construction and later destruction of Ilam Hall in the 1930s. Our experienced and knowledgeable guides will take you on a journey through the centuries, as you walk in the footsteps of those who shaped Ilam's history.

Perfect for families, the walk is approximately 3 miles over fields and occasional rocky terrain. Accompanied children aged 8 years and over welcome.

"Visitors will be able to examine the strata from the Milldale Limestone sequence and geological structure exposed in and around Ilam Park with explanation and commentary along the route. " - Chris, Geology Walk Leader

The walk includes a 10% discount voucher for the Manifold Tearoom for the day of the walk.
