Lacock Lovers Walk trail
Discover the medieval village of Lacock on this picturesque stroll. The circular route takes you through the historic village streets as well as along tracks on Lacock's outer reaches. It passes quaint cottages, a village church, and a little ford before heading along a field track and the narrow Lovers Walk. There are plenty of chances to divert from the route. Why not visit the Lacock Abbey tea-room, stop at the gift shop in the village, or explore St Cyriac's church?

Start point
National Trust car park, Lacock, Chippenham, SN15 2RQ. Grid ref: ST917682
Step 1
Leave the car park and cross Hither Way using the pedestrian crossing. Then follow the footpath through the trees and beside the road towards Lacock village.
Step 2
Keep on the path, passing the entrance to Lacock Abbey and the Fox Talbot museum on your right, to continue onto High Street. There are public toilets available to your left in the car park next to the National Trust Stables Café. Walk past the National Trust gift shop on the right and walk the full length of the street.
Step 3
At the war memorial, follow the road around to the right into West Street and then right again into Church Street.
Step 4
Just before St Cyriac church turn left onto a small lane called Nethercote.
Step 5
At Lacock Ford and the packhorse bridge, cross over the Bide Brook and keep right with the water on your right. Continue up the lane to the end.
Step 6
Where the lane ends, cross the stile on your left and follow the trodden path straight ahead. Aim for the stile that's about two-thirds of the way along the hedge on your left.
Step 7
Leave the field by the stile and head left away from the road down a narrow enclosed path, known as Lovers Walk. This will take you back to the Bide Brook.
Step 8
Head back over the packhorse bridge and retrace your steps down Nethercote Hill into the village. Turn right onto Church street, then almost immediately left into East Street and keep walking until you reach High Street again.
Step 9
Back on High Street, turn left to retrace your steps back along the footpath to the car park and the end of the walk.
