Heritage Open Days

Heritage Open Days As part of Heritage Open Days, the National Trust is offering free entry to The Firs on Monday 9, Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September (10am – 5pm each day).

  • Free event (admission applies)

Come along to The Firs and discover the life of one of Britain’s greatest composers.

For Heritage Open Week, we will be hosting talks about Elgar and having an apple weekend highlighting the variety of apples we have at The Firs.

Have a stroll around the idyllic cottage gardens and pop into Little Al’s café who serves a range of hot and cold drinks and light lunches.

Monday 9 September

12pm & 2pm A talk on Elgar by Richard Westwood-Brookes

Friday 13 September

11.30am A talk from Peter, local cider and perry producer at The Lingens Farm.

12.30am & 2pm A talk on Elgar by Richard Westwood-Brookes

2pm A tour of the orchards with our gardener, Hels.

2.30pm-4.30pm Elgar Society: Jacqueline Edwards ‘England’s Britannia : Dame Clara Butt’*

Jacqui will discuss and illustrate the life and career of her distant ancestor, the celebrated Edwardian contralto for whom Sir Edward Elgar composed a number of works including his song cycle ‘Sea Pictures’. 

*This is an Elgar Society event, but they are happy for visitors to sit in and listen.

Sunday 15 September
