-
Book in advance online. If you are taking a last-minute trip, you can check availability and book online to arrive on the same day.
-
In the booking system, choose your pitch type and size, reading the description carefully. On arrival, you'll choose your pitch from those available as we don't allocate or reserve specific pitches. Friends can choose pitches next to each other from those available on arrival.
-
When reading pitch descriptions, pay attention to parking information as some of our pitches are car-free while there's space for one car on others. Additional cars can be parked by reception with an additional fee.
-
The campsite is a peaceful and relaxed place, and not suited to large or noisy gatherings.
-
Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.
-
We welcome organised groups like Duke of Edinburgh and Scouts. Please complete the group booking form at the bottom of the page and we'll get back to you.
-
You don't have to be a member of the National Trust to camp and we are unable to offer member discounts due to the regulations we are governed by as a charity. If you'd like to be a member and support our work, please speak to the team at reception.

Arriving by road: We are 2 miles off the A39, between Porlock and Lynton. Look out for the brown sign for Cloud Farm Campsite. Be careful not to follow sat-nav which may guide you down some narrow roads. Many roads, including the A39, are steep and narrow in places, and our driveway is unpaved and rough in places.
Car free discount: We offer a car free discount if you arrive on foot, by bike or by public transport. Please retain any public transport tickets to claim the discount. Ask for details at reception when you arrive.
Arriving by rail: The nearest station is Taunton from where you can take a bus to Minehead and another bus to Porlock. It is then an approx. 8 mile strenuous walk to the campsite or use the summertime Exmoor Coaster bus service to County Gate carpark
Arriving by foot or by cycle: You’ll find us clearly marked on Ordnance Survey maps. Our grid reference is shown below.
We’re three and a half miles from the South West Coast Path, come off near County Gate and continue to Malmsmead. The Coleridge Way is also nearby.
If you’re cycling we’re half a mile off the National Cycle Network 51 route.
Postcode: EX35 6NU
Grid Reference: SS794467
Decimal Coordinates: 51.207147 , -3.7275496-
Please check in at reception after 1.30pm before pitching.
-
Don't worry if you'll arrive later. Just collect your late-arrivals envelope from the box by reception, and it will have all the information you need inside. Come and see us in the morning to check in.
-
On your day of departure, please leave your pitch by 11am. If you'd like to extend your stay, please come to reception and let us know.
-
On arrival, we'll help you choose your pitch from those available as we don't reserve or allocate pitches in advance. In some of the fields, cars are parked away from tents and so you'll be able to unload nearby and then move your car to the parking area. Friends holidaying together can pitch next to each other if suitable pitches are available. At least six metres must be left between tents.
-
The campsite is suitable for campervans and motorhomes up to a maximum of 6m in length. Sorry, but access restrictions mean we can't accept caravans of any length or motorhomes longer than 6m.
-
When booking online, you can choose a hardstanding pitch with electrical hook-up or a riverside grass pitch without electric (campervans only). Read the pitch descriptions in the booking system to help you make your choice.
-
A chemical toilet disposal facility/Elsan is available. We don't have a drive-over grey waste disposal.
-
-
Think of a pod as a replacement for a tent. You'll need to bring everything you would bring if you were camping in a tent, such as a sleeping bag, pots and pans, a stove and camping chairs. We provide mattresses, but some campers like to put their sleeping mat on top.
-
Cloud Farm has six plus pods, which are a little larger than a standard pod. They are suitable for either two adults and two children, or a maximum of three adults.
-
The front section has two single beds with mattresses, designed to be used as seating during the day. There is storage space below. The back section has mattresses for another two people, which can be folded up to provide two more seats. There are hooks for hanging rucksacks and jackets.
-
The plus pods have a porch light, interior lights and plug sockets that include USB charging.
-
The plus pods are insulated and have underfloor heating.
-
Outside, there’s a small deck, a picnic bench and fire pit, with views cross the campsite and into the Lorna Doone Valley.
-
Two pods are dog frendly. Be sure to book a dog-friendly pod if you need one.
-
Your car will be parked in the car park.
-
The reception and shop opens in the morning to serve freshly-baked croissants and pains au chocolat, and to answer questions about the local area and recommend walking and cycling routes. In the summer months, we have ice cream and cold drinks including beer. You'll also find some camping staples like beans and pasta, and the things you need to make s'mores.
Opening times vary throughout the season and are displayed around the site.
We don't take cash in the shop, just card and digital payments.
It's a good idea to stock up on food on your way to the campsite, as our closest grocery shops are a 15-minute drive away in Porlock or Lynton.
Showers and toilets: We have good, hot showers in four shower pods in a rustic barn building. Showers are free of charge. The toilets are next door.
Washing up: There's a covered, outdoor washing-up area.
Laundry: Sorry, there's no laundry at Cloud Farm.
Waste: We have general waste, recycling and composting facilities.
Chemical waste: We have chemical toilet disposal facility/Elsan. We don't have a drive-over grey waste disposal.
Electric Vehicle charging: There is one 7.4kw charging point for an electric vehicle, which can also be used by guests at the Cloud Farmhouse cottage. There is a QR code on the charging station, where payment can be arranged to Monta Web Map.
Parking: Please read the pitch descriptions carefully when booking as some of our fields are car-free, so you'll park in the car park. You'll be able to park nearby to unload. On the other camping fields, there is space for one car on your pitch. If you have an additional car we will ask you to park in the parking area by reception. There is an additional fee of £5 per additional car per night.
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available in the gardens around reception. It is of limited speed but should be enough to send and receive messages and for basic web browsing.
Mobile phone signal: There is no mobile phone signal at the campsite.
Holiday cottages: There are two National Trust holiday cottages at Cloud Farm - Carver Cottage (sleeps six) and Cloud Farmhouse (sleeps six). There are another three in Malmsmead, a mile away - Heron View (sleeps four), Kingfisher View (sleeps six) and Riverside Cottage (sleeps four).
We welcome dogs free of charge, two with each party. Let us know when you book. Two pods are dog friendly; please choose a dog-friendly pod if you need one. When at the campsite, please keep your dog on a lead at all times and exercise them away from other campers. Please pick up after your dog right away and use the dog waste bins in the main waste disposal area in the campsite car park. We sell bags in the shop.
Small campfires are allowed and we can lend you a firepit. Wood can be bought in the shop. Please do not use your own wood unless it's free of nails and other debris.
Charcoal barbecues are allowed if they are raised from the ground.
We sell s'mores ingredients in the shop.
Caravans: Please note that the site is not suitable for caravans of any length or motorhomes greater than 6m in length, due to access restrictions.
Quiet time: Please think of your neighbours and help us protect the peace and tranquility at Cloud Farm at all times. No noise 10pm - 7am please.
Cooking safety: Cooking inside tents is not permitted and can be lethal due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
No smoking please.
Sorry, there's no fishing in the river here.
Lost property: If you leave any of your possessions behind at the campsite, please contact us as soon as possible.
We reserve the right to charge you for any storage and delivery costs that we incur in relation to your lost property. We charge a lost property charge of £10 to cover our administrative costs and standard Royal Mail delivery up to 2kgs in the UK to return your items to you. If a request to return your items deviates from these conditions, then we reserve the right to charge you any additional costs.
Where possible, we’ll hold lost property for three months after which it’ll be disposed of. Perishables will be disposed of immediately and are therefore unreturnable. In addition, we will only be able to return items permissible by Royal Mail.
Problem or complaint: Every reasonable care will be taken to ensure that the camping pitch, pod or bothy and also site amenities are presented to a high standard. Should you find any cause for complaint, please immediately contact one of the campsite staff, so that reasonable steps can then be taken to rectify the problem. National Trust will not normally make any refunds in respect of complaints made after the Visitor’s departure from the campsite if the Visitor did not make the problem or complaint known to staff during the Visitor’s stay. If you supplied an email address at the time of booking, a survey will be emailed to you for your comments after your stay. Alternatively, a comment form may be completed and left at the campsite reception. All complaints made after the Visitor’s departure should be made in writing by post or email to:
