Sitting in 20 acres of gardens and parkland and built in 1699, Middlethorpe is a William and Mary house that has been lovingly restored to a luxury hotel. The elegantly decorated traditional country house interior is furnished with antiques and paintings, making it feel like you’ve stepped back in time, although the modern touches like the award-winning restaurant, and the boutique modern spa (housed behind the façade of two Edwardian cottages in their own private garden) will convince you that times have moved on.
Outside, the beautiful gardens with a walled garden, rose garden and ha ha are perfect for exploring. Then, less than two miles away, you’ll find historic York is wonderful to enjoy on foot with its medieval streets, the stunning Minster and Yorvik Viking Centre vying for your attention amongst shops, bars and boutiques.
Business guests can also enjoy a stay at Middlethorpe, or just hire self-contained meeting rooms for the day, with the Barlow room, boardroom and syndicate room available, seating up to 56 guests for management away days, meetings, interviews or seminars. Historic House Hotels: Middlethorpe Hall is one of three Historic House Hotels, which was founded in 1979 to acquire and rescue run-down country houses. In 2008, they became part of the National Trust by donation to ensure that the houses and their land are kept safe for ever and maintained to their present high standards. All hotel profits are donated to the charity.
