2 Bagden Farm Cottage is a warm and welcoming retreat for six people, full of modern comforts and surrounded by countryside. Barns stood on this spot in the past, which is now in the care of the National Trust, The original barn floor is now the enclosed courtyard for the cottage. The fireplace at the end of the courtyard was built by Canadian soldiers stationed here in the Second World War and has now been converted into a barbecue. The new barn has traditional flint walls and a slate roof, with large windows at either end of the first floor that offer lovely views of the landscape. The cottages are clad in red cedar from the estate. The internal oak detailing is also wood from the estate, helping to reduce transportation. The cottage shares a courtyard with neighbouring barn, 1 Bagden Farm Cottage, and has its own garden and patio. Flower meadows and fruit trees are being planted on the shared land.
The site is home to owls, bats and Roman snails. There are bat tunnels in the loft space, and with an owl box on site, you can often hear them calling at dusk.
Inside, you’ll find rustic beams, terracotta tiles and a natural sage and olive palette. In the living room, the log burner is surrounded by comfortable seating, and French doors open into the enclosed paved courtyard with a barbecue in the site’s original fireplace. The large family kitchen has an island as well as a dining table, and large windows looking onto the garden and the countryside beyond.
There’s one bedroom on the ground floor, with beautiful white and green marble tiles in the ensuite shower room. Upstairs, there are two more bedrooms, each sloping into the eaves, and a family shower room.
