About Dinefwr Deer Lodge

Dinefwr Deer Lodge is a simple stone building on the Dinefwr Estate with lots of character and comfortable, cosy touches. The rear opens onto a lawn edged by a stream, with a view of the 18th-century deer park.

The front door leads into an open-plan, high-ceilinged room with exposed beams and rough local stonework. There’s a traditional carved oak bed, dining table and chairs, and comfortable places to relax by the wood burner. A door leads to the kitchen and shower-room.

There’s lots to discover on the estate. A path close to the Lodge will lead you to a ruined 12th-century castle perched on a hilltop. You’ll have free entry to Newton House, a grade II-listed manor house and garden, with a café and second-hand book shop. You can follow a walk designed by Capability Brown in 1775, and other paths invite you to explore varied landscapes from flower-rich hay meadows to dense woodlands, bog woods and wet meadows. The estate is protected as a National Nature Reserve and is home to otters, polecats, voles, fallow deer and badgers.

The award-winning market town of Llandeilo is a mile away.

Deer stalking takes place in the park between 1st August and 31st March, so please don’t enter the park between 5pm and 10am in the summer months and 3pm and 10am in the winter months. It is important to follow all signs and guidance provided.

Layout

Ground floor layout

Enter into the large open plan dining, sitting and bedroom with super king-sized bed. A dividing wall separates the kitchen, WC and shower room off the kitchen.

More information

Heating: There is gas central heating and a log burning stove.

Garden: To the rear and left hand side of the cottage there is a wilderness garden with seating for 2. The garden is a SSSI so it is maintained but not manicured. The garden is bordered by the stream on one side and the Deer Park fencing and a stone wall on the other.

Parking: There are two parking spaces adjacent to the cottage

Offers: Guests will benefit from a late Sunday checkout of 4pm. 

Please note: The cottage is near a path that takes visitors to the castle on Dinefwr Estate. The estate team will also use the track on occasions.

There is a small stream to the rear of the cottage. 

Between 1st August and 31st March every year deer stalking is planned to take place. Culling is very weather dependant and the available daylight hours during the winter months often dictate the timing of a cull. To ensure the safety of the public the deer park is off limits to the general public and guests staying in Dinefwr between the hours of 5pm and 10am during the summer and 3pm and 10am in the winter. As such please do not venture into the Deer Park between these times and follow any guidance you may come across in the form of signs and information provided by the staff.
