About Glan yr Afon

Tucked away in a picturesque Welsh valley, Glan yr Afon offers the unique chance to stay within the grounds of Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, a culturally iconic 16th century farmhouse. It’s the perfect place to escape the bustle of modern life and immerse yourself in the culture and nature of Wales.

Sleeping five, with a double, a twin and a single room, and with storage space for five bikes, Glan yr Afon is a great base for walkers and cyclists. The cottage is near the Traws Eryi trail, a 200km off-road adventure cycling route for experienced riders, which links up some of the best riding in Eryri (Snowdonia). Whether you want to unwind by exploring the river walks and forest cycle trails on your doorstep or relax to the burbling sound of the stream running past the front door, you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy your tranquil surroundings.

Guests are also welcome to explore the grounds of Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, famed as the birthplace of Bishop William Morgan whose act of translating the Bible into Welsh, helped save the language.

After an invigorating day’s exploration, you can cook yourself a hearty meal in the cottage’s characterful kitchen, complete with slate work surfaces and quarry-tile floor. Then snuggle down in the cosy sitting room by the woodburner. Or, on those long summer evenings, relax on the outdoor seating in the beautiful open garden, listening to the sounds of nature all around you.

Further afield, the historic village of Betws-y-Coed is just over 4 miles away, where you can stop for a cuppa and cake in one of its many tea-rooms.

Please check the website for Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant for opening information.

More information

Please Note: There is a stream dip in front of the cottage which is not fenced off. Due to the cottage's proximity to the stream, there is a flood board on the back door. As a result, this cottage is not suitable for children under 3 years old.

Heating: There is a woodburner in the sitting room, which heats the two radiators. Logs will be supplied for this. In addition there are electric wall panel heaters throughout the cottage. Hot water is on an immersion system.

Induction Hob: Guests with a pacemaker should note that there is an induction hob in this cottage.

Parking: The parking area for two cars is at the side of the cottage.

Garden: The cottage is surrounded by open gardens that lead into Ty Mawr with a walk going up the side of the stream into the woodland. There is a steep drop straight from the lawn to the water. Please do take care if children are in the garden. There is an outdoor table and chairs and a bike store adjacent to the front door - with plenty of room for four bikes.

Cycling: Eyri National Park is a great place to cycle. For experienced riders, the Traws Eryi trail is a 200km off-road adventure route that links up some of the best riding in Snowdonia.
