About Gwernouau Cottage

Gwernouau is a pretty, 18th-century cottage and part of a working farm on the Ysbyty Estate. The cottage was renovated by the Penrhyn Estate in the late 19th-century and has many original beams and other features still in place.

Wake up to the noise of the farm, and nothing else. From here you’ll be able to head straight out into the countryside for day hikes and views of the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountains. The area is excellent for bird watching and fishing.

Eight miles from the cottage is the beautiful town of Betws y Coed, nestled in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia).

More information

Access: The accessibility guide is for guidance only. For up-to-date information, please call the team on 0344 800 2070.

Heating: The cottage is heated by an air source heat pump.

Parking: There is ample parking adjacent to the cottage.

Garden: There is an open garden at the front of the cottage for guest use, but it does have a steep drop so children will need to be supervised.

Offers: Guests will benefit from a late Sunday checkout of 4pm at this cottage.

Access: The track to the cottage runs through a few fields with sheep grazing – through 4 farm gates, taking you to a wonderful remote location. This is not suitable for low slung vehicles.

Fishing: Please telephone the Holiday Contact Centre for details of trout fishing on the upper reaches of the River Conway.

Cycling: Eyri National Park is a great place to cycle. For experienced riders, the Traws Eryi trail is a 200km off-road adventure route that links up some of the best riding in Snowdonia.

Please note: There is a sheep pen and farm building which sit to the rear of the cottage.

Plastic Free Yr Wyddfa: Plastic Free Yr Wyddfa is an initiative organised by Eryri National Park to protect the mountain’s sustainable future. This cottage, and all National Trust holiday cottages in the national park have been awarded silver status in this plastic-free business programme, and we are making changes to work towards gold status.
