About West Challacombe Cottage

Look out over sweeping vistas of rolling hills and coastal heathland from the windows of this two-bedroom cottage. It sits in a dreamy location high on Holdstone Down, so nothing will come between you and those stunning views.

Step inside the white-washed cottage to reveal a bright and airy space that hints rustic charm with its log-burner, dark wood flooring and panelled walls. You’ll be able to breakfast alfresco on the front lawn, which is shared with neighbouring West Challacombe Manor (sleeps five), which can be booked together, before setting off for the day ahead.

The shops, restaurants and beach at Combe Martin are just a 20 minute walk from the cottage. As you’ll be on the fringes of Exmoor, you could loop onto the South West Coast Path for its rugged coastline or delve further into its hilly moorlands.

We've begun work to restore the farmland at West Challacombe to nature

To create a haven for wildlife and people, we've planted 20,000 trees and created a wetland in the land around the holiday cottages. Leaving space for species-rich grassland full of wildflowers to spread across the farm, we're creating a much more biodiverse landscape.

Exploring the area...

As well as walking trails from the front door, there's more to discover within driving distance. The 3-mile sand beach at Woolacombe is half-an-hour's drive to the west, or head to Ilfracombe for the ferry to Lundy, an island full of wildlife, including puffins. The ancient woodland of Heddon Valley is to the east, with walks to Heddon's Mouth where the river meets the sea between some of England's highest cliffs, and the secluded shingle beach at Woody Bay, surrounded by tree-covered cliffs.
