Terms and conditions

• The competition

  1. ​​​​​​The competition is open to National Trust members, excluding National Trust employees, only.
  2. Email your answer labelled 'National Trust Archaeology Competition' in the subject line to takepart@nationaltrust.org.uk on or before 11.59pm on Sunday 30 June 2024 – the 'Closing Date'. Please provide your answer to the competition question, full name, postcode, membership number and email address. Please refer to the 'How to enter' section for the question.
  3. There's a limit of one entry per member. Any member who enters more than once will be disqualified.
  4. Entrants under the age of 18 must have permission from their parent or guardian and be accompanied by an adult if they win the first prize. The parent or guardian agrees to the terms and conditions on their behalf.
  5. One winner and five runners-up will be drawn at random from the entries with the correct answer. We'll make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner and runners-up personally within five business days after the Closing Date, via the email address used to submit the competition entry.
  6. The winner and runners-up are required to accept the prize by responding to our email within five business days.
  7. If the winner or a runner-up doesn't accept the prize within five business days, we reserve the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant drawn from the correct entries that were received by the competition Closing Date.
  8. The first prize is described below. It's available on the dates and at the times given and isn't available on any other dates or at any other times.
  9. Travel to the location of the first prize, the National Trust holiday cottage Vineyard Farm Cottage in Dorset, isn't included and the winner will need to make their own travel arrangements.
  10. We won't be responsible for any transport or accommodation costs incurred in the acceptance or fulfilment of the prize.
  11. The first prize doesn't include any extras.
  12. The runners-up prizes are described below.
  13. No cash alternative will be made. Prizes are non-transferable.
  14. The surname and county of the winner of the first prize and the runners-up will be published on our website or made available on request. If you object to your surname and county being published or made available, or wish to reduce the amount of information to be published, please state this in your entry email or contact us separately at takepart@nationaltrust.org.uk.
  15. Subject to the first prize-winner's consent, we'd aim to use the winner's details and photograph in post-event publicity on our own channels, including our website and magazine.
  16. Responsibility can't be taken for entries lost, delayed or mislaid.
  17. Events may occur that may render the competition itself or the awarding of the prizes impossible due to reasons beyond our control, and accordingly we may vary or amend the promotion. We'll do everything we reasonably can to ensure that winners receive prizes of at least equal value.
  18. Personal data supplied during the course of this competition will be processed as set out in our privacy policy.
  19. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
  20. By entering the competition, you're agreeing to these terms and conditions.
      

• The first prize

  1. A three-night stay at National Trust holiday cottage Vineyard Farm Cottage in Dorset (ref 003003) from Friday 2 to Monday 5 August inclusive. Vineyard Farm Cottage is a thatched cottage just below Corfe Castle in Dorset. It's self-catering and sleeps four (two bedrooms) and up to two dogs. Further details are below.
  2. An exclusive archaeology experience with a National Trust archaeologist at Corfe Castle in Dorset on Saturday 3 August 2024.
  3. A copy of Britain's Landmarks and Legends book by Jo Woolf.
  4. A print from Britain's Landmarks and Legends, signed by the illustrator, Claire Harrup.
  5. A National Trust gift card to the value of £50. Terms and conditions apply.

• Further details about the stay at Vineyard Farm Cottage

  1. Check in at Vineyard Farm Cottage is from 4pm on Friday 2 August and check out is before 10am on Monday 5 August 2024.
  2. Vineyard Farm Cottage sleeps four people across two bedrooms. The winner may bring up to three guests and two dogs. The number of guests stated must not be exceeded.
  3. Our standard terms and conditions of a holiday booking apply.
  4. Accessibility at Vineyard Farm Cottage includes:
     • Parking next to the cottage
     • Steps up to sitting room
     • Narrow, steep staircases

• Further details about the archaeology experience

  1. The winner may bring up to three guests and two dogs with them to the experience. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
  2. The experience will include a tour of Corfe Castle and the surrounding area with a National Trust archaeologist.
  3. The experience will take place at 9.30am on Saturday 3 August 2024 and will last for approximately three hours.
