Accessibility at Wicken Fen

We have been working to ensure as many people as possible can experience Wicken Fen's nature and history, making it a welcoming place for everyone who visits. Discover key access information to help you plan a visit to Wicken Fen.

Arrival and parking

  • When you arrive at the carpark, there are six Blue Badge spaces and there is also a drop-off point located near to the Visitor Centre, with two spaces.
  • The carpark is on even ground with pea shingle. The main route to the Visitor Centre is on flat tarmac.

Getting around outdoors during your visit

  • Manual wheelchairs are available to borrow from the Visitor Centre on arrival. These can be pre-booked by emailing wickenfen@nationaltrust.org.uk
  • The boardwalk trail is pushchair and wheelchair friendly, providing a circular 0.7 mile (1.12 km) route with two level access bird hides. The Woodland Walk beyond is on flat, level hardstanding but can sometimes be a bit wet and muddy in winter.
  • The Lodes Way is a level, gravel track that offers wider access across the nature reserve, however circular routes may be difficult due to uneven surfaces.

Facilities at Wicken Fen

  • The Docky Hut Cafe is next to the Visitor Centre, and there is level access. There is seating both inside and out.
  • An accessible toilet is located behind the Docky Hut Cafe.
  • There is level access into the Visitor Centre and onto the boardwalk.

Other useful resources

  • A map detailing the walking routes and accessibility across the site is avaiable from Visitor Welcome when you arrive.
  • Hearing induction loops are available from Vistor Welcome when you arrive.
  • Sensory bags that include fidget toys, ear defenders and magnifying glass are available to borrow at the entrance to the hall.
  • Large-handled cutlery as well as red and blue plastic plates, bowls, and single and double handled cups are available to use.
