If you find walking difficult you can still enjoy Lyme, thanks to the Tramper, all-terrain mobility scooter that's available to borrow. Available from the Ticket Office at the house, people with reduced mobility can explore the garden along designated Tramper routes while taking in glorious floral displays and views of the house from across the lake.

What is a Tramper?

The Tramper is an electric all-terrain mobility scooter designed specifically to cover uneven ground more comfortably. It can go up and down slopes, over bumps and tree roots, through shallow puddles and across mud and soft ground.

Who can use it?

The Tramper can be used by anyone who feels it would be useful for their visit. The scooter is easy to use, (so don’t worry if you’ve never used a mobility scooter before), and offers the chance to explore some of the parkland which is difficult to access for those with reduce mobility.

With a top speed of four miles an hour it can keep pace with walking companions.

Where can I go with the Tramper?

The tramper can be used in the garden at Lyme only. The tramper is too large to be used in the house and tea rooms, instead you can borrow a wheelchair for this portion of your visit. The visitor facilities at Lyme - where the garden, toilets and tea rooms are located - are wheelchair, buggy and mobility scooter-friendly.

We may suggest avoiding certain paths after periods of very wet weather. National Trust staff will be on hand to offer clear guidance on the routes you may use and free maps are provided to assist you.

How much does it cost?

The Tramper is free to borrow. Donations towards its running costs are appreciated and help us keep the service running.

How do I book the Tramper?

Booking is essential. We recommend you book well in advance, and ideally a minimum of 3 days before your planned visit. This is because they're popular and a trained member of staff must be present on the day of hire. However, please do cancel if you change your mind so someone else can use your slot.

Please email the team on Lyme@NationalTrust.org.uk to book the Tramper or give the team a call on 01663 762 023. Remember to include a telephone number and email address so we can confirm availability of the tramper.
