Mr Skidmore has been Chair of Tatton Garden Society (TGS) since 2019.
Mr Skidmore began his career in research into plant diseases and has taught horticulture and ecology and conservation in both higher and further education institutions. He is now an Emeritus Professor. He is also registered as a Plant Health Professional and advises on plant health, horticulture and environmental and social issues. Mr Skidmore will be talking about the Society’s work with Plant Heritage in being National Collection Holder for three collections at the Arboretum, and the importance of conserving species and varieties for gardens. To put this conservation into context, he will talk about the history of "plant hunters", how plants are named and how new cultivars are bred and then describe what you can see at the Arboretum and in other National Collections.
The lecture is free for members of the Tatton Garden Society. For non members the cost is £5, plus parkland vehicle entry.
