North Side, South Side: Tamara Riverscape Stories
Experience stories of the Tamar Valley through art created by local young people in a new exhibition at Cotehele.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
The Tamara Riverscape Stories exhibition, an initiative by the Tamara Landscape Partnership, unites children and young people to create stories that explore the natural and cultural heritage on both sides of the River Tamar.
Over a year and a half, the project worked with young people and adults to think ‘out of the box.’ They explored the histories of local rivers and visited Buckland Abbey, Tavistock Guildhall Heritage Centre and The Box, Plymouth. They also journeyed through market-garden, mining and railway heritage by heritage by visiting Cotehele’s Orchards and Bere Ferrers.
The project highlights the river, youth perspectives, and apples as symbols of continuity and sustainability. It intertwines themes of movement and heritage while examining the past, present and future. Travelling to the river by train and on foot, children and youth collaborated with artists, practitioners, and researchers from the University of Plymouth.
The exhibition showcases multi-media responses to this exciting community project. Join us in the Victorian Drawing Room to experience it. Please note that the exhibition is up a flight of stairs.
Funded by the Tamara Landscape Partnership (made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund) with support from partners Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, National Trust, Tamar Grow Local, and funding in-kind from the University of Plymouth and Sails and Canvas.
