Echoes of Blossom
In collaboration with renowned sound artist, Justin Wiggan, we have been running community-focused workshops that explore the intersection of nature, sound and poetry in the knot garden at Trerice in celebration of the arrival of spring.
In the workshops, Justin uses bio-sonification technology to transform the electrical signals of plants, flowers and trees into immersive soundscapes. The process involves attaching sensors to plants which detect their natural electrical variations, creating a unique auditory experience that allows participants to 'hear' the garden's living essence.
Participants were asked to write down their thoughts and feelings in response to the sounds, and these were hung in the blossom trees to form a temporary hanging gallery in the knot garden.
From April, QR codes will be placed under a selection of trees so that all visitors will be able to 'hear' the hidden sounds of the garden.
Thank you to iSightCornwall, Newquay Orchard, Brannel School, Richard Lander School and Gather and Grow for taking part in the workshops. Reflections from these workshops will go towards the formation of a soundscape that will feature in the knot garden for perpetuity.
