Dr Kyriaki Hadjiafxendi presented her paper 'The Eventfulness of Nature: women and the seashore in the long nineteenth century' at the A la Ronde symposium 2024.

Biography: Dr Kyriaki Hadjiafxendi

Kyriaki Hadjiafxendi is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at Bath Spa University. She is currently working on a research project, provisionally titled, Nature on the Move: Patterns of Female Collecting in the Long Nineteenth Century.

Her current research explores the different ways that women brought nature into their homes and the role it has played in the reconfiguration of their identity as part of a multispecies community. It builds on her published research on Victorian women, work and art, which includes Crafting the Woman Professional in the Long Nineteenth Century (Routledge, 2013), What is a Woman to Do? A Reader on Women, Work and Art, c.1830-1890 (Peter Lang, 2011) and Authorship in Context: From the Theoretical to the Material (Palgrave, 2007); as well as her funded public engagement project, Science a the Seaside: Pleasure Hunts in North Devon (2014) and related publications.
