On 11th July 2024 we held our Symposium, entitled ‘Female Craft and Design in the Eighteenth and Early Nineteenth Centuries’. Held at Reed Hall, University of Exeter, we invited a wide range of people to share stories about A la Ronde and how it connects to the wider world. This paper 'The material biography of Molly Lepell: Material culture and collection as a form of life writing in the 18th century' was presented by Emily Deal, as part of the panel 'Decorative historic interiors and material histories'.

Emily Deal presented her paper 'The material biography of Molly Lepell: Material culture and collection as a form of life writing in the 18th century' at the A la Ronde symposium 2024.

Biography: Emily Deal

Emily Deal is a doctoral researcher at the University of East Anglia in collaboration with the National Trust and Historic Royal Palaces.

Her research focuses on Mary “Molly” Lepell, Lady Hervey (1700-1768), her material culture and social network as a member of the household of Caroline of Ansbach when Princess of Wales.

Emily is also interested the material culture of the country house, including but not limited to female book ownership and collection in the early modern period.
