Camp Out and night walk at West Challacombe (Combe Martin)

Experience wild camping at West Challacombe and take part in a night walk and moth trapping with the ranger team.

Come and spend a night of free wild camping and nature activities at West Challacombe.

Join the ranger team to set up moth traps, before heading out on a night walk with bat detectors and a thermal scope. The next morning we will take a look at the moth traps and learn all about the wonderful world of moths.

Booking is essential to secure a free camping spot at West Challacombe. You can book your camping spot online here, one spot per tent. Maximum tent size 6 person.

Tipi set up for communal shelter, BBQ available to use, but you must bring your own food. Tea, coffee, water and pastries will be provided. Basic camping toilets on site.

Please note: this is a overnight event running from the 4pm on Thursday 8 August - 12pm Friday 9 August.

Two person tents and sleeping bags are available to borrow and we will be putting on a camping equipment 'shuttle' at 10am and 3:30pm from the Kiln car park, please email maia.rhoads@nationaltrust.org.uk if you would like this service or to borrow equipment.

What to bring and wear

Suitable clothing for all weathers and footwear for uneven terrain. Bring own camping equipment, food, plates, cups and cutlery.

Accessibility

The ground can be uneven and steep in part. Basic camping toilets provided, nearest public toilets in beach car park.

Other

This is an overnight event. Directions to site - walk up the SW coast park from Kiln car park (up some steps) and either continue along the coast path (20 minute, partially uphill, approx. 0.6 miles) or cut through West Challacombe (shorter distance covered but steeper uphill climb).
