The house at Overbeck’s is currently closed so that we can carry out essential repairs and maintenance and protect the building for the future. The National Trust aims to start re-opening part of Overbeck’s house in 2025.

Works to the house

The National Trust has begun an extensive project of essential works at Overbeck's House. The largest task so far has been to replace the supporting structure of the Belvedere Tower. Repairs to the north side of the property are well underway - work to repair and stabilise the chimneys has been completed, damaged render, guttering and drainpipes have been replaced and paintwork has been redecorated. These are the first steps towards creating conditions that will continue to preserve the building.

Last year our toilets were replaced and now include an accessible toilet, plus baby change facilities in the ladies and gents.

There are still extensive repairs to complete in the interior of the house over the next few years. Once essential works are completed, the Trust aims to display some of the collection and visitors can find out more about the history of Overbeck’s.

The collection

The collection remains in the house and a team of specialists are working to discover more about the items and their provenance.

In the meantime one of our attractions from the collection, the giant polyphon music box, is played for visitors each Sunday and Thursday at 12pm and 2pm in the conservatory.

The garden

The sub-tropical garden continues to be open as usual from March to October. Overbeck’s Garden team have created a new rest area in the garden called ‘The Square’, which has been developed thanks to funding from the National Trust South Hams Centre.

Thank you - with your ongoing support we're able to continue this vital conservation work at Overbeck's.
