Turn wet weather Salcombe days into a rainforest adventure with an umbrella stroll at Overbeck’s Garden.

Subtropical planting comes to life in coastal wet weather. Put on your wellies and embrace the sights, sounds, and smells of fresh sea rain on foliage. Borrow a National Trust brolly from our umbrella station at Visitor Reception, and explore the subtropical canopy, designed by nature for rainfall.

Walk a world in a garden - terraced paths lined with glossy palms, and ferns from every climactic zone glistening with droplets. From the shelter of your brolly, drips and rivulets of water from polished leaves create soothing sounds of nature. Find intricate spiderwebs, ferns, and mosses coated in a fine mist of rain straight off the sea. Pearly rainwater spheres balance on Taro leaves and succulents.

"The Garden’s lush greenery takes on a unique vibrant hue under grey skies, bringing interesting depth to the colours and structures of the inspiring plants here at Overbeck’s. Rainy days offer a completely different perspective and set of sounds for plant-lovers." Head Gardener, Chris Groves

Rambles in the rain are great fun for visitors of all ages to connect with nature in wet weather. Overbeck's Garden is open Sundays to Thursdays, 10.30am – 4.00pm until 31st October 2024.
