Are you a young person in Plymouth looking for a unique work experience opportunity? From Monday, 14th July – Friday, 18th July, Saltram is offering a chance to gain hands-on experience in heritage, conservation, visitor engagement, and behind-the-scenes operations.

Whether it’s helping to preserve historic treasures, welcoming visitors, supporting outdoor conservation, or exploring the inner workings of a heritage site, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence, and explore potential career paths.

Saltram is one of Plymouth’s most iconic heritage sites - a stunning Georgian house surrounded by beautiful parkland, cared for by the National Trust. As a hub for history, nature, and community, we welcome thousands of visitors every year, bringing heritage to life in exciting and meaningful ways.

By taking part in work experience at Saltram, you’ll gain practical experience, work alongside inspiring teams, and be part of the National Trust's mission to care for our shared cultural and natural heritage - for everyone, for ever.

What will work experience at Saltram look like?

During your week at Saltram, you’ll be part of a group of five. Together, you will rotate through up to six different departments, giving you an insight into the various career paths available at the National Trust. The activities will include both indoor and outdoor work.

What's the age limit?

Saltram's work experience programme is for students in Year 10 and Year 12.

Why do I have to fill in an application form?

Due to the high demand for work experience at Saltram, we require an application form to gain a clear understanding of why you want to take part. This helps us ensure we’re offering the opportunity to individuals who are genuinely interested.

What should I wear?

The dress code for work experience is smart casual. Jeans are fine, but please avoid ripped jeans or those with large images. One of the days will be spent outdoors, so please bring layers and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. For this day, sturdy shoes are also essential.

How long will the day be?

Our work experience days run from 10am to 3pm, with a 30-minute lunch break included.

Will I be able to get a reference?

Yes, we can provide you with a reference if appropriate.
