In a peaceful corner of Dorset stands White Mill, nestled on the River Stour in the Kingston Lacy estate. Discover more about the last surviving mill on this stretch of the river.
Step inside to discover the remains of wooden gearing, shafts and frames, all constructed to a wonderfully high standard. In its heyday, the mill would have shaken with the vibrations of the clattering machinery and the roar of rushing water.
Walk through the 18th century building and discover the stories of the millers and their families, including the Joyce family – tenant millers for 130 years.
Join a guided tour to find out more about the owners and workings of White Mill. Tours are available throughout the day, on days the mill is open, and last around 40-45 minutes.
Away from the noise and hubbub of everyday life, White Mill is a nature spotter’s dream. Keep your eye out for the many interesting animals, birds, and fish that live on and in the River Stour, including otters, kingfishers and pike.
