Slide your way around Chedworth Roman Villa this May half-term for our much-loved annual Roman Snail Trail. Explore the ancient site and uncover all the fascinating facts about Helix Pomatia, the famous Roman Snail.

Journey through the Villa's ruins, winding paths and gardens to take part in classic snail-themed activities the whole family will enjoy:

Human Snail Racing – Strap on a snail shell and eyes and ‘race’ your way around the track

Inspect a Snail Shell - Discover the intricate architectural wonders of a real snail's shell up close.

Name a Snail - Get creative and give one of our resident snails a brand-new name.

Find 'Pom' - Help us locate our mischievous mascot Pom, who's hiding somewhere around the Villa.

But that's not all! This year we've added even more hands-on fun to the Snail Trail. There will be snail art & crafts, a snail obstacle course and recipes revealing how the Romans may have prepared tasty (and nutritious!) snail dishes.

You may even be lucky enough to spot a Roman snail while visiting the Villa. (Remember that Helix Pomatia is a protected species so look but don’t touch.)
