Centuries-old mansions, a working watermill and wildlife-rich heathland await you in Hampshire.
Our Hampshire gardens are awash with blooms from early spring. Daffodils cluster on lawns at Mottisfont and in The Vyne’s walled garden. You’ll find jewel-coloured tulips and frothy cherry blossom at Hinton Ampner.
Daffodils cluster in swathes beneath giant veteran trees in March. Mottisfont’s magnificent magnolia bursts into bloom and lilac-blue chionodoxa flowers carpet the lime avenue. Later, tulips fill borders in the walled gardens, and Mottisfont’s little cherry orchard is a sea of white blossom.
Daffodils are popping up in the orchard’s tufty grass by the church. Later, tulips will be bringing shots of colour across the gardens. Look out for frilly-edged candy-pink Huis Ten Bosch and purple-blue Bleu Aimable in the sunken garden’s long borders. You’ll find hundreds more tulips in the yew garden.
The walled garden is lined with daffodils in March. They fringe the South Drive entrance and the huge lake, and you’ll find bunches for sale too. In April, almond-scented cherry blossom pops up in the wild garden, and in late April , thousands of bluebells litter the woods.
Stretch your legs, run around, enjoy some peace and quiet and take in stunning views.
Adjoining the gardens are acres of beautiful parkland. Follow the ancient tree trail to discover some of its remarkable gnarled veterans, or simply enjoy soaking up the panoramic vista as you wander. There are several waymarked trails on to the wider estate.
