Car park
During wet weather the grass overflow has to close and cars park on hard standing. We then usually need several days of warm weather to dry the overflow out before reopening it.

Dogs allowed
On a lead at all times, not allowed in the house, shop, servery or first floor of tearoom or the play area off the Lime Avenue. You can now take your dog into the ground-floor seating area of the Brewhouse tea-room. We suggest you have min two people in your group so one can sit with the dog while the other orders. Assistance dogs welcome across the site.

Please be aware of deep water by the main bridge. Paths in the grounds are uneven at times. Woodland paths are difficult to navigate due to tree roots. Accessible toilets are located at the tea-room which is 1,200m from the car park.

Steps/uneven terrain
Access to first floor in the house is via a staircase only and this has no handrail. In the woods the paths have tree roots coming across them in places and can get very muddy.

Four miles north of Basingstoke between Bramley and Sherborne St John. Entrance to visitor car park is on Morgaston Road. what3words: pizzeria.person.gone
Parking: Parking is free. There is a 1/3 mile walk between visitor reception and the house. Blue badge parking is available. All parking is on hard standing.
Sat Nav: Will not take you to the main car park, instead follow National Trust brown signs and reach the visitor car park off Morgaston Road.
By train
Basingstoke 4 miles - taxi rank available outside of train station. Bramley 2½ miles - requires a walk of 2½ miles from this station. Note: Vyne Road has no foot paths.
By bus

Nationally recognised ‘Treasure House’, pre-Reformation chapel with stained-glass windows, Tudor Oak Gallery, Neo-classical staircase hall and a 17th-century sketch by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri.
Garden
Lime Avenue leading to a 17th-century summerhouse and 600-year-old oak tree plus a walled garden and orchard. Lakeside path offers views of the house.

Jane Austen events at The Vyne in 2025
As 2025 marks 250 years since the birth of Jane Austen, The Vyne is celebrating this milestone with a variety of Austen-inspired events. From the end of March, uncover Jane’s links to the family at The Vyne with an exhibition and tour of the house. Families can enjoy Regency Easter Adventures and, a little later in the year, a literary trail. From May take a stroll to the neighbouring village of Sherborne St John. On select dates, don't miss plays, live music, Regency dancing and outdoor cinema. Read on to note key dates for the diary.

About The Vyne
Once an important Tudor palace, this atmospheric mansion has some illustrious connections, from Henry VIII to Jane Austen. Outside, acres of wildlife-rich gardens, meadows and woods create a wonderful space for relaxation and exploration, while the natural play space gives children freedom to let their imaginations take them on fantasy adventures. Sweeping lawns offer lakeside picnicking, and a short stroll reveals a cosy bird hide overlooking the water meadows.

Rare stained glass returns to Gothic 'tomb' at The Vyne
Some of the rarest surviving 18th-century stained glass in the care of the National Trust has been fitted with environmental protective glazing. Known as ‘isothermic glazing’, this will protect it from the ravages of weathering intensified by the impact of increasing rainfall and heat from the sun.
