Conservation in Action at Chartwell
See Chartwell a little differently and learn about the preventive conservation our Collections team undertake to ensure the preservation of Sir Winston Churchill's heritage.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Our conservators will be holding different live demonstrations with opportunities to ask questions about conservation and the collections at Chartwell.
Please bring along some spare change for our donation pot. It helps us to continue to look after the collections and care of Chartwell.
April’s Conservation in Action days will shine a spotlight on the care for items within the theme of inventions. Highlights will include some wartime inventions and a chance to guess the function of some of the more unusual objects we will be presenting.
July’s Conservation in Action days will focus on our ceramics. Our conservation teams will be cleaning, performing condition checks and marking inventories as well as answering your questions about conservation and the collections at Chartwell.
October’s Conservation in Action days cover preventative conservation across five days with different themes. The ever-popular Metals Monday returns on 6 October. Tuesday 7 October’s theme is inspired by autumn colour and some of our red objects. Wednesday 8 October’s seasonal theme is Creepy Crawlies and how we deal with the bugs and insects in historic homes. Thursday 9 October’s theme is the autumnal golden shade. Friday 10 October completes the week with a Freaky Friday look at some of the unusual objects in our collection.
