Silverdale & Arnside National Trust are welcoming anyone who identifies as a woman to our Women in Conservation Practical Work Party. You don’t need any experience, just the passion to learn and pick up a pair of bowsaw and loppers. 

Our female ranger team will be here to guide, teach and work alongside you. We will create a safe and unintimidating space, where you can be with like-minded people who are also interested in nature and our local environment. Coppicing is a traditional technique used for hundreds of years, and helps create a mosaic of habitats in which glades allow our phenomenal wildflowers to grow, providing habitat and food source to species big and small. The wood cut then gets collected as firewood, creating a net-zero carbon energy source, or habitat piled to create homes for species that live in our woodland. We will have a fire going to rid of any unwanted brash and to keep us warm! 

This is a great opportunity to gain experience for those looking to enter into the conservation sector, and for those who just want to spend a day in the woods.


In the afternoon, for those who would like to stay, we’ll go for a small walk around the site and talk about the wildlife, ecology and history that makes Arnside Knott the magical place it is.
