William Wordsworth was one of the fathers of the English Romantic movement, so what better place to host your fairytale Lake District wedding than within the elegant rooms and charming walled gardens of his childhood home?

An atmospheric wedding venue

Wordsworth House and Garden, a late 17th-century townhouse on Cockermouth’s tree-lined main street, is available to hire for civil and naming ceremonies, renewal of vows and other special occasions, and we have a range of packages to choose from.

Ceremonies seating up to 40 guests can take place in the dining room where the Wordsworths used to dine, or in the upstairs drawing room, the clerk’s office or in front of the fire in the atmospheric Georgian kitchen.

For even more intimate gatherings, the summerhouse on the terrace where William and his sister Dorothy loved to play can accommodate you and your intended, witnesses and registrars, with a handful of guests seated outside.

Have your photographs taken inside the house, on the terrace or in the picturesque walled gardens that William remembered so fondly in later life.

The Trout Hotel

Partnership packages are also available with the Trout Hotel next door, an award-winning independent hotel offering fine dining and accommodation to meet all your needs for your special day.
